How To Cope with Tragic Events: 9/11
When tragedy happens in our Country it’s very important to come together as one and remember all the people who lost their lives that day. Sometimes we get so frustrated and confused as to why these kind of events happen. What can we do? How can we stop it? Seventeen years ago 9/11 occurred and everyone thought time had stopped, since then so many tragedies have come about and it seems as if there is no way to deal with it. I’ve done a lot of research these past few days and have discovered a lot of tools you can practice to not have anxiety and not live in fear in our country.
Symptoms of stress
Everybody experiences stress, some more than others. There are so many symptoms that come with stress but if you might not think you have it here are some things that come out of stress that you might be able to treat by just changing your lifestyles. Low Energy. If you have so so much on your mind and can’t seem to get up and do it you might be too stressed already to do. Headaches. If you are doing something and you start feeling Dizzy or you can’t see it might be due to a headache from overworking. Other symptoms include Constipation, Upset Stomachs, Insomnia and the one I seem to get the most, a cold or flu. If you have these symptoms there is always ways to reduce it! You could meditate for about 15 minutes and try to get in touch with your body. If that does not seem to work you can take quick five minute breaks and get in touch with your breath. Stress does come from work but if you have something on your mind that keeps stressing you out such as future fears then there are a ton of techniques to help you learn how to relax and breathe.
Symptoms of Anxiety
Stress and Anxiety have similar like symptoms. You experience the upset stomach, the dizziness and the headaches, but the worst of them all that anxiety can do to you, is make you feel like you’re going crazy. Anxiety can make you feel a sense of unwanted weight on you and make you seem as if everything is out to get you. Everyone goes through anxiety and feeling anxious at one point but if you dwell on something for so long it can eventually eat you whole. If you’re feeling a certain uneasy way then try to get in touch with your body at all times. Before trying medicine remember there are other natural ways. Scientist say meditating is the best way you can face feeling anxious or stress.
Americans have been very jittery the past years due to terror attacks that recur in almost every year. People can’t seem to relax with doing anything now of days. A couple years back a plane from London had to stop in Canada because there was a suspicious looking thing on the plane, all the passengers started to panic and immediately made the plane land. The suspicious item was a cellphone. Nothing will ever be the same since September 11, 2001 and that’s okay because if you fear some things in your everyday lives just remember that you are not alone and know that everybody goes through this fear. America has tried to tighten security at airports, and check mail before sent, but at the end of the day people will still live in fear and nobody will forget what has happened unless America could promise that these things would never happen again.
How to Cope When you Feel you Can’t
On September 11th, 2001 terrorist came and took more away then just two building, they took away lives and scared the American people all over the Country. The first way to cope, is to turn off the TV. If you continue to watch the television and scare yourself more and more you will cause so much fear in your life. One company did a survey and the people who watched the most TV regarding the attacks dealt with the most stress. Some people find talking to others who can help find it easier to lower your stress levels. There are many organizations that have meetings that people can go to and just talk about what they feel. Also people can see someone with a degree and have a one on one meeting with that person who can help them cope and discuss how they feel with uncertainties in their day to day lives with how they feel about 9/11. I remember when I was 3 and my brother was six and these attacks were happening. My mother wanted to make sure we were informed on what was happening. So she sat us down and made us watch the news that day and explained to us what was happening. I could tell my mother was scared but she knew that these like this happened and at a time like that you cannot be scared or live in fear no matter what you do.
If PTSD shows up with you then you should get help as soon as possible. It’s okay to talk to people and try to find a way to overcome this tragic event. Psychologist study many fears and agree that with time people’s fear for 9/11 will ease. Unfortunately people who had a first hand experience with 9/11 will maybe never move on completely and it might creep up on them at all times.
When people react it shows they do fear in a way. If I were to something suspicious on a plane my heart would be racing and my stress and anxiety levels would go up. I’m so happy that there are many organizations that can help you and talk to you so you have the ability to get better and find ease in your life and for the people around you.
